Plot Summary

The tear-inducing trials and tribulations of farm folk; specifically, hand-cart workers, in Japan at the turn of the century to the 1940s, as experienced by Seki-san and her husband, Moichi-san. Their family grows, as once and again, difficult circumstances, like competition from technology (horses, then trucks), must be surmounted.
